• This is an overview of what we do for Service Learning in each grade level. Students have the opportunity to earn Service Learning Credits in grades 6-8.

The 6th grade’s service learning project revolves around utilizing knowledge gained from content classes which will contain information to find ways to improve the environment by educating others about the connection between fossil fuel usage and the plight of the Chesapeake Bay oyster.

At the beginning of the 8th grade year, students go through an extensive study of what it means to be a veteran and sacrifices that are made.  Usually a Veteran’s Day Ceremony is held at STMS. Students research the cost of war, read various fiction and non-fiction pieces to understand the implications of being a veteran.  Students will engage with virtual presentations from Veterans. Based on their knowledge, and self reflection of their own strengths, students choose a way to honor veterans at the school Veterans Day Ceremony or through other methods of donation boxes.
