    Dear Matapeake Families:
I hope that you had a wonderful summer. Administration and staff are looking forward to the start of a new school year. In order to provide better communication this school year, a newsletter will be emailed monthly, as well, as posted on our school website. Please check for dates and the latest school happenings.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT. As always we are asking parents to partner with us at school to help keep our students safe. We know that students cannot learn if they do not feel safe; therefore, we are asking you to do the following:

REMIND your child to inform administration or staff about incidents, bullying or threats related to themselves or others. "If you see something, say something". Administration would like to be proactive and stop incidents before they happen.

MONITOR your child's use of social media. Please make sure that they are using cell phones and Chromebooks responsibly. Please adhere to our district's "Acceptable Use Policies".

EDUCATE your child about the dangers of tobacco, vaping, drug and alcohol use. The negative impact of these harmful substances can greatly affect student learning and overall adolescent development. We will enforce the QACPS policies and procedures related to dangerous substances as outlined in your "Parent and Student Handbook".

ENCOURAGE your child to have positive interpersonal skills with each other. Students should respect individual differences and avoid name calling or the use of racial slurs. MMS prides itself on the 3Rs:

    • Respect for Self
    • Respect for Others
    • Respect for Community

Welcome back! Happy New School Year!

    Dr. Lois McCoy
