Dr. Beverly Wolff

English Department

Dr. Wolff received her Bachelor of Arts in the Teaching of English from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. After completing graduate courses in teaching reading at the secondary level, she became Director of the Reading Laboratory at Champaign Central High School. She completed her Masters in English at West Chester State University and her Doctorate in British Literature at the University of Delaware.  Her dissertation is on Henry James (Individual Vision in the Novels of the Middle Years). She has taught both graduate and undergraduate college courses in English, composition, and film at West Chester State University, the University of Delaware, Michigan State University, and Washington College, in Chestertown, Maryland. Currently, she teaches English IV, British Literature, at Kent Island High School, where she has taught all high school levels of English, as well as Speech, AP Literature, and AP Language.

In college, Dr. Wolff tested out of Introduction to Biology and Introduction to Botany; she passed courses in chemistry, plant phylogeny and morphology, and microbiology. Her first husband has a Ph.D. in chemistry and she typed his dissertation. Her son majored in chemistry and has an M.A. in chemistry; he published a book on pyrotechnics.  She enjoys science fiction and science fiction film and has taught college courses on both subjects. Dr. Wolff's daughter has a Ph.D. in Art History and helped develop a major exhibit at the Smithsonian. That Dr. Wolff has children with college and graduate degrees, professions, houses, spouses, and children of their own amazes and delights her!
