Mr. Strader
Greetings, I am Mr. Strader and I am the Homeland Security instructor at Kent Island High School. I began teaching at KIHS in 2012 and helped establish the Homeland Security program shortly thereafter. I believe the courses I teach, and the entire Homeland Security pathway, have much to offer students; relevant subjects range from personal security to international terrorism. Students with career interests in law enforcement, emergency management, cyber security, humanitarian aid and political science are encouraged to expore the Homeland Security pathway.
Students will be challenged to think like a spy, a terrorist , a federal agent, an emergency responder, a policy maker, or a detective; by instruction, and the examination of history, current events, policy, and hopefully common sense students will manifest a progressively more sophisticated approach and response to real world challenges in the Homeland Security field.
Students that choose this pathway will become proficient in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as tools to solve problems, discover trends, and predict outcomes. Students will have the opportunity to become industry certified for potential future employment possibilities.
