Recent Band News

 

  • On May 25, 2022, the Marching Lions Band held the 2022 Marching Lions Percussion and Color Guard Clinics.  A great evening was had by all that were in attendance.

  • On May 31, and June 1, 2022, the Marching Lions Band held their 2022 Marching Lions Band Mini Camp.  Everyone had a great evening getting to play through the music of the upcoming fall field production titled Shockwave.

  • On July 25 - August 5, 2022, the Marching Lions Band held their 2022 Band Camp where they worked on learning the "Opener" and "Ballad" of their fall field production Shockwave.  In addion to working on the show music and field show drill, they were also introduced to several other selections that they will play throughout the fall.  They also learned a selection to be used for the Homecoming Parade to be held in mid September.  Band Camp was concluded by a performance of what they had leared of the field show production, that was shared with family and friends that atteneded this presentation on the band's practice field.  It can be found here on their YouTube Channel.

  • On September 24, 2022, the Marching Lions Band traveled to Lake Forest High School in Felton, DE for their first competition of the season.  They gave a great performance that earned them a score of 75.5.

  • On October 8, 2022, the Marching Lions Band traveled to Colonel Richardson High School in Federalsburg, MD for their second competition of the season.  They gave another great performance after two weeks of hard work that earned them a score of 79.7 and a tied second-place finish with Lake Forest High School Spartan Marching Band.

  • On October 22, 2022, the Mighty Marching Lions Band traveled back to Lake Forest High School for the TOB Region 9 Championships. After presenting their best performance of the season, they improved their score 9.1 points from their first show 4 weeks ago, 4.9 points from their second show 2 weeks ago for a Championship score of 84.6 that gave them a 2nd place finish in the Group 1 Open category. Along with that, they earned the award for 1st Place Music, 1st Place Percussion, 2nd Place Visual, and 2nd Place Color Guard.

  • On October 24, 2022, the Combined Concert Band along with the Combined Concert Choir and Dance Classes presented the 2022 Pops Concert "Folksongs".  It was a great evening of culturally rich music and dance.  The evening was enjoyed by a very supportive audience.

  • On November 6, 2022, the 2022 Marching Lions Band performed their final performance of the T.O.B. season at the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships. They performed like never before this season and did not let the size of the stadium, nor their own size stop them. The Mighty Little Marching Lions Band gave it their all and finished with a score of 85.3. This is a season improvement of 9.8 points. Going in they were tied at 8th from Regionals Weekend with a band from another region but were knocked down to be ranked 9th due to being outscored in a single music caption. As a result of their outstanding performance, they ended up tied in 8th once again with their local regional competitor who was more than twice their size. However, QA outscored them in the overall Music score. Additionally, the Color Guard finished 10th and the Percussion finished 5th.

  • On November 11, 2022, the Combined Concert Band was able to once again be a part of the Centreville Veterans Day Ceremony.  Due to the inclement weather, the ceremony was moved from downtown to the American Legion Post were a large crowd still gathered despite standing room only. The band provided a few selections prior to the start of the ceremony at 11:00 AM.  Then, the members of the Marching Lions Band presented the Star Spangled Banner following the Pledge of Allegiance.  After a couple of speakers shared their thoughts and stories, the Combined Concert Band paid tribute to each of the armed forces by playing American Heroes, that was a medley of the various service branches' songs.

  • On November 30, 2022, the QACHS Jazz Ensemble, Combined Concert Band, Combined Choirs, and the Marching Lions presented the 2022 Sounds of the Season Winter Concert.  The evening was filled with the music of the holidays.  The concert was well attended and enjoyed by all.

  • On December 2, 2022, the QACHS Marching Lions Band marched in the Centreville Christmas Parade and was happy to help lead the parade through town by being the first marching band to go through as well as the fifth entry overall.

  • On January 28, 2023, QACHS had 3 students that traveled to Bennett Middle School to audition for a spot in the 2023 Senior All-Shore Honors Band.

    5th Chair Trumpet – Everett J.

    The concert will be held at QACHS on Saturday, April 15th.

  • On February 24, 2023, QACHS had 15 students that traveled to Kent Island High School to participate in the Maryland District 5 North Solo and Ensemble Festival.  These students made up 1 solo and 8 small ensembles.  After 2 months of hard work by these student-organized and rehearsed ensembles, they accomplished earning a "Superior" rating for the 1 solo performance as well as 7 of the ensembles.  The 8th ensemble also did very well and received a rating of "Excellent".  Those that received the "Superior" ratings have qualified for the Maryland State Solo & Ensemble Festival in May.  This event will be the first live state S&E event to be held since May 2019.

  • On April 14 and 15, 2023, the members of the 2023 All-Shore Honors Bands gathered at QACHS for rehearsals both days that concluded with the concert.  The Senior Band, including those from QACHS, were under the direction of guest conductor, Dr. Christopher Heffner while the Junior Band was under the direction of Mrs. Deborah Turner. It was an outstanding afternoon of Music presented by both bands.

  • On April 27 - 30, 2023, the members of the Combined Concert Band and the Marching Lions Band traveled to the Norfolk/Williamsburg, Virginia area to participate in the Music In the Parks Busch Gardens Williamsburg Festival.  The Combined Concert Band performed at Bruton High School in Williamsburg on Friday evening, and the Marching Lions performed at the same location on Saturday morning.  A great time was had by all on Saturday while at Busch Gardens.

  • On May 10, 2023, QACHS hosted the 18th Annual Night of Jazz that featured the QACHS Jazz Ensemble and the CMS Jazz Ensemble.  The Cafe stye concert was held in the QACHS Cafe where light snacks were ejoyed along with the music provided by these two outstanding ensembles.
